Homesteading 101 = Full Access
Are you interested in becoming more self sufficient and living more environmentally friendly? Our Homesteading 101 Course is coming to the city in 2018. Learn how to grow, prepare, and preserve healthy organic food, soap making for body and home, upcycling household waste, chemical free lawn care and more. Homesteaders Full Access course allows participation in all of the farm’s gardening and cooking classes. The general introduction, syllabus and texts will be distributed at the February class and again at the March sap to syrup class.

Backyard Food Production for Beginners
Take the first step toward creating a sustainable source of food in your own backyard with these five classes intended for beginner and intermediate gardeners.
Growing some of your own food at home will offset your grocery bill and ensure that you have fresh, healthy, and organic food to eat.
Get the skills and knowledge to set up a productive backyard garden.
Series $100 / $25 Drop in (includes book)
Tuesday and Thursday Evenings 6-8pm
May 8 – Seed Starting
May 15 – Composting & Vermiculture
May 22 – Tools of the Trade
May 29 – Building Raised Beds
June 5 – Transplanting, pest, and disease management

Preserving the Summer Harvest
Learn different methods for preserving the harvest including water bath canning, pressure canning, jamming, dehydrating, fermenting, and freezing. After each class attendees will have a sample product to take home. During the course, attendees can expect to work with farm fresh strawberries, raspberries, cabbage, cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, corn, and more as produce is available.
Book included.
June 12, July 17 and August 8, 6-8pm.
$100. All materials included(drop ins $35).

Permaculture for Backyard Production
A hands-on course that will give you the skills and philosophy of permaculture techniques used in backyard food production. Permaculture design works with nature to protect our natural resources, is ergonomic for the gardeners, and healthy for the soil.
Designing your own backyard plan will be part of the course.
Bring your notebook, wear your work clothes, and be ready for some fun learning.
Book included.

Cooking in Season
Join Bertrand Farm’s Cooking Instructor, Suzanne Wilson, and Cook the Summer Harvest. Classes range from semi-hands on to hands on. Food is sourced from Bertrand Farm gardens and seasonal. Suzanne Wilson is a long time Bertrand Farm CSA member and personal chef. Each class has multiple presentations workshop style with tasting and recipe sharing.
The sessions will follow the season and feature local production. Dates to be announced
Late Spring: - greens, roots, brassicas, new potatoes
Early Summer: - squash, cucumbers, green beans
Heat of the Summer - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant
End of the Harvest: -winter squash, potatoes, dried beans, brussel sprouts, cauliflower
6-8:30pm Series $100. Drop in $25.

Up-cycle for Christmas Giving
Demonstrations on this years’ favorite upcycled gifts. Each class will focus on several projects you can make with items you might ordinarily throw away. Each class will have multiple “make and take” activities along with several additional demonstrations.
