Welcome to Bertrand Farm

Bertrand Farm is an educational farm active in the Michiana community since 1996. Twenty-three years ago we hosted our first week of farm camp at our rural farm site in Niles, Michigan. Our educational mission has remained strong through the years with farm programming that has grown and changed to meet the wants and needs of our local community while addressing important agriculture topics around health and environmental well-being.

After retiring our rural location in 2017 we officially moved to the city. Farming the City, an urban experiment in permaculture, takes farm education to the next level. Our downtown South Bend Location offers better access to all the same great programming and additional food, farming and sustainability education for students, beginner small farmers and the greater community.

Our three-acre urban farm site is located on the school landscape of Good Shepherd Montessori School (GSMS). In partnership, Bertrand Farm and GSMS, are transforming the landscape to grow an urban agriculture learning center for the Michiana community. An urban farm that welcomes students of all ages.

Our mission to connect people to local food production in a way that promotes healthy farming, healthy eating and earth stewardship has never been stronger. This web site gives you the opportunity to learn more about us and our programs.
